Chicken & Egg Films is excited to welcome Julia Thompson as our new Associate Director of Program! They will be responsible for overseeing, planning, and implementing a portfolio of core programs and partnerships, including the (Egg)celerator Lab, AlumNest programming, and partnership initiatives, in collaboration with the Industry & Artist Development Manager.
To kick things off, our Communications Manager, Mariana Sanson, asked Julia a few questions to help everyone get to know them and give them a warm welcome to the C&E family.
MS: What’s your six-word story?
I support makers and make things.
MS: Why C&E?
I found a place at C&E where my skills and experience can make a difference for filmmakers and the organization as a whole. I love the projects C&E supports and its mission to ignite change through documentary filmmaking.
MS: What’s a key idea or belief you bring to providing filmmaker support?
Direct communication with your collaborators is essential to creating films sustainably.
MS: Any hot takes on the documentary industry/ecosystem to share?
The current distribution climate is a challenge, but it has also opened up creative ways to think about distribution. Ideas don’t need to be filtered through industry gatekeepers, and that opens up a unique opportunity for more direct interaction between filmmakers and audiences.
MS: What is your favorite documentary, or one you’ve seen recently that stayed with you?
Tarnation.
